Our Scholarships

Our Mentoring/Preparatory Scholarship program was created to encourage high school students who share our passion for making music to continue their training by participating in a more advanced music organization, with mentoring from our membership. It is not a monetary scholarship, but one that provides valuable experience and training. Successful candidates may request letters of recommendation for college applications, etc. One vocalist and one instrumentalist will be awarded a scholarship each year.

Our 2010-2012 Recipients Katie Pollock (soprano) and Candace Parks (flute) have been invited back for an unprecidented additional season. Their contributions to Calliope's 2010-2011 performances were outstanding!

Calliope is also pleased to announce Bella Bennett (cello)

RECIPIENT BIOS

Katie Pollock attends Bishop Fenwick High School this September as an Honors student. She enjoys singing, dancing, acting, reading, and writing. Her role in Calliope is in the choir as a soprano. Katie also plays the drums and piano.

Candace Parks currently attends Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, and is going into her Junior year there. In school, she is involved with the Jazz/Concert band, where she has played for two out of seven years on the flute and traveled to perform in the Jazz Heritage Festival with them twice. She is also involved with the Liturgical band and choir program at her school. "Music has always been, and will always be, a major part of my life and being given this opportunity to perform with Calliope has only furthered music's role in my life," says Candace.

Bella Bennett  attends the Coakley Middle School in Norwood. She is the youngest scholarship recipient to date. Impressed by her outstanding contribution in the school orchestra at a spring 2011 performance, Ms. O'Toole invited Bella to participate as a scholarship recipient for the 2011-2012 season.

Our recipients go through the same audition process as our accepted members. They are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work in a collaborative, adult music organization. We welcome them!
